How to Accurately Describe Condition! Our goals in presenting this glossary are to: Provide buyers and sellers with a common language for the condition of glass or pottery items. Prevent conflicts regarding the condition of a pottery or glass item. What We Mean by Flaws and Damage: Flaws Flaws are defects, visible marks or inclusions made during the manufacturing process that should be included in the auction description. These flaws do not always affect value but they may do so, depending on visibility and severity. For example, a few seed bubbles in the stem of an antique glass piece will most likely not affect value.

When I was young, there were no deer in the Thumb, and pheasants were everywhere. By necessity, deer hunters traveled to northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula U. After they loaded their suitcases, deer rifles, and red-plaid hunting coats in the trunk, they headed for Mackinaw City and the car ferry, which would take them across the Straits of Mackinac to St. Ignace and the U. The annual November ritual made an impression on me, and I wanted to be part of it.

When I was a senior in high school, a priest friend from Ruth Father Fitzpatrick suggested that we go to his hometown of Alpena over Thanksgiving and hunt on family property in the area. I remember the excitement as I packed my suitcase for my first deer hunting trip.

Abstract The eroding coastal sections of Ashkelon, Israel contain exposed sequences of natural and anthropogenic sedimentological deposits; some of unknown origin. Ashkelon, an important and long-occupied ancient coastal city, is directly referred to within written records of past tsunami events yet field studies and archaeological descriptions have not yet corroborated these claims. This is not unusual, nor unexpected, given the amount of anthropogenic and natural disturbance that can erase the sedimentary remains, as well as the relatively recent advancements in identifying such deposits.

A sequence of sediments at the base of an eroding coastal archaeological section shows clear waterborne transport characteristics and was previously interpreted as alluvial; however, no alluvial sources could be associated to the deposit. In this study, the sedimentological characteristics of this section were described and analyzed in greater detail to determine their nearest similarity to possible transport mechanism such as storms, rivers, and tsunamis.

The deposits contain fining-upward sequences, rip-up clasts, imbricated inclusions, fine mud layers, microfauna foraminifera , and broken diagnostic pottery from the 4—5th c.

Signatures and Numbers Hull trademarks were represented in different signatures, including stamped letters, incised, embossed and with stickers. Incised defined is cut into, engraved or carved made by cutting into with a sharp tool an example of a Hull incised piece. EXAMPLE Some patterns would have both incised and embossed signatures depending on the piece, as some pieces were borrowed from other patterns and new colors were added to match the new pattern.

Some patterns would have Hull with a capital H and other patterns would be hull with small letters. The name of Hull was not placed on all pieces although the more expensive pieces usually had Hull on them. Some patterns would have Hull, USA followed by a number or letter series mold number and size identification. Some were marked with numbers and some were unmarked. Hull used different foil labels at different times and for different lines. The Granada and Rosella patterns had their own foil labels.

In the 30s and 40s Hull used the foil labels on the lines that were not marked with incised or embossed labeling on the bottom. Even with signatures and markings on the bottom of Hull pieces they may be readable due to heavy layers of glaze over the incised marks and the embossed marked may be hard to read due to the use of old molds.

Dairy cows were introduced to by English settlers in the early s. Meat cows were introduced by Spanish settlers. Cattle were kept primarily for dairy production and were slaughtered and eaten only when they could no longer be maintained through the winter. This pattern was long established As early as live cattle were driven to Boston, where they commanded high prices By the nineteenth century, the United States was famous for meat-eating as England had already become by the seventeenth century Chapel Hill NC] p.

Americans have no doubt always preferred beef, but what they actually ate was necessarily that which was available, and for the first three centuries of white history in America, what was most readily available was pork. Nevertheless as early as , Harper’s Weekly reported that the commonest meal in America, from coast to coast, was steak; and at the beginning of the Civil War, Anthony Trollope At the beginning supplying this demand presented no problem, Each settlement was capable of raising for itself as much beef as it needed But the population of the East Coast increased rapdily; its inhabitants discovered they were not quite as rich in space as they had thought; and much of the land could be better employed for other purposes than grazing.

If Americans were to eat beef in the quantities to which they wanted to become accustomed, more spacious grazing lands had to be found. They were found, on a scale which once again seemed unlimited, in the Far West

Excellent question with no definative answer. This recipe invites experimentation. Early print descriptions suggest the original dessert was a frozen fudge infused ice cream pie presented in chocolate cookie crumb pie crust. Ice cream flavors varied; fudge ran from chocolate sauce to thick emulsion. Some recipes incorporate marshmallow or whipped cream. Others have no ice cream at all and are served warm or room temperature.

They are classically garnished with gummy worms. The earliest print reference we find for Mud Pie suggests it was concocted by the wife of a rising star chef based in Long Beach California, circa

It’s not uncommon for the characters to be siblings, not unlike the Aloof Big Brother — e. Sam Malone’s brother was more popular than him, Adrian Monk’s brother was better at deduction. The classic better sibling is, of course, Mycroft Holmes , better known as “Sherlock Holmes’ smarter brother. The most common ways for besting them in action shows is by outwitting or tricking them, finding their Achilles’ Heel , using a Forgotten Superweapon , getting into an Unstoppable Rage , or just a good old-fashioned David vs.

This is generally just a one-shot character, but in continuing, action-oriented shows, this character can sometimes turn into a recurring villain or Big Bad with whom the Hero develops a rivalry. In many cases, the rivalry is entirely one-sided — either the rival doesn’t know that their challenger exists or much to the mortification and fury of the Hero likes the Hero and considers them a friend, and thus doesn’t enjoy competing with them; there may even be something the Hero possesses which the rival character envies.

In other situations, the better character is a Jerkass who just loves to lord their superiority over the Hero. Sometimes overlaps with The Ace. In a Monster Protection Racket , a character can seem this way before they’re revealed. Most notable is the “U”, it stands straight up in Hobo, whereas the Fulper “U” tilts at a rakish angle. Also, the letters of the faked mark appear to have been impressed one at a time, as the depth of each letter varies considerably.
